The Ancient Messene Archaeological Site is located approximately 30 kilometers from Kalamata, making it easily accessible for visitors exploring the Peloponnese.
🚗 By Car: You can reach the site in about 40 minutes from Kalamata via a scenic drive through the Messenian countryside. Free parking is available near the entrance.
🚌 By Bus: Public buses run from Kalamata to Mavrommati, the nearest village to Ancient Messene. From there, it’s just a short walk to the archaeological site.
The Ancient Messene Archaeological Site operates on a seasonal schedule:
Summer Season (April 1st – October 31st): Open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Winter Season (November 1st – March 31st): Open daily from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

On certain holidays, the site has adjusted hours:
